Soil Improvement for a Healthier Lawn
Building a healthy lawn means starting from the soil up.
Soil testing is essential for improving your lawn.
With all the different things that can affect your lawn, a soil test is highly recommended. A soil tests will provide great information on what your lawn is lacking and how your lawn can improve. We recommend all our new clients have a soil test performed and that current clients have regular soil tests every three or four years.
What Information Do Soil Tests Include?
The soil tests performed by Rainbow include information on:
- The pH of the soil
- Organic matter content
- Cation exchange capacity (CEC – used as a measure of fertility, nutrient retention capacity, and the capacity to protect groundwater from contamination)
- Available macro and micro nutrients
Soil aeration is one of the best opportunities to correct poor soil composition, but is not the only option available. Adding a layer of organic matter is great alternative that provides the same benefits of improving soil composition. By itself, or in combination with seed, a top dressing can promote a really good looking, healthy lawn. Lawns with a higher percent of organic matter will respond better to fertilizer and look healthier.
