Lawn Fertilization Services in Minneapolis
Most homeowners dream of enjoying a lush, green lawn. They also know a beautiful lawn can be tough to maintain. Even the healthiest lawns need support to stay in top condition. Rainbow Lawncare’s fertilization services, with or without weed control, can help you create the lawn you want and ensure it continues to thrive!
We offer two options for achieving your perfect lawn–time-released traditional fertilizer or organic. Both are specifically formulated for our Minneapolis / St. Paul climate. From the type of fertilizer you want to the amount of weed control needed, the choice is yours.
What can you expect from our lawn fertilization services?
Unlike other lawn care companies, Rainbow Lawncare never locks you into a plan you’re not committed to. We offer you the flexibility of choosing between our Premium Fertilizer Program, a premier, professional-grade fertilizer, or our fully Organic Program.
Option 1: Premium Fertilizer & Weed Control
our most popular option
Our new, premium fertilizer and weed control program uses the cutting-edge technology of controlled release fertilizer, giving you a lush, green lawn and benefits to the environment. This program includes three fertilizer applications: spring, early fall, and late fall. The first application includes a professional, golf course grade product that provides a slow release of fertilizer for over 90 – 120 days, which eliminates the need for additional applications during the Minnesota summer. We developed this program to ensure our lawn care approach stands up to the demands of Minnesota’s changing summer weather patterns.
Rainbow Premium Program vs Standard Fertilizer Programs
Included in Rainbow's Premium Fertilizer & Weed Control Program
- Early spring fertilizer (controlled release over 90 – 120 days) along with pre-emergent and spot weed control

- Late fall fertilizer and weed control application
- Premium program customers receive free weed control call-backs if you have weeds in between our visits!

Rainbow Lawncare is one of the few companies that offers homeowners in the Twin Cities a fully organic lawn care fertilizer service.

Additional frequently asked questions about fertilization
One of our biggest challenges in Minnesota is the short growing season, and in particular spring (which sometimes feels like just a week). Our team has a very narrow window of time to provide you with the recommended 5 fertilizer applications perfectly timed throughout the season. Additionally, the readily available slow-release nutrients will allow your lawn to receive the fertilizer it needs–when it needs it–while also benefiting the environment.
Plants need nutrients throughout the growing season to grow to their fullest potential. When we apply a controlled release fertilizer, the turf is provided a very predictable and consistent release of nitrogen (N) in the amounts the plant needs when they need it. The controlled release of this product allows for less opportunity to have leaching of extra product into the ground water or growth surges right after application. Additionally, our technicians can then focus their attention to weed control during the key summer visits.
With so many products on the market, lawn fertilization may seem like an easy do-it-yourself task. In reality, it can be challenging to do correctly. Our technicians are highly trained to avoid problems homeowners often encounter, including:
- Using too much or the wrong type of fertilizer
- Uneven distribution of fertilizer
- Applying more than the lawn requires and can absorb
- Applying fertilizer when the lawn doesn’t need it
- Excess fertilizer leaching into groundwater or run off contaminating lakes and streams
Lawn fertilization provides many benefits:
- Encourages root and leaf growth
- Improves soil and turf health
- Helps the lawn resist damage from stressors including pests, diseases, and drought
- Replenishes vital nutrients that can be lost over time
- Crowds out weeds — naturally!
