Is Your Perfect Lawn Bee Friendly?
Are you looking for a positive way to impact pollinators? Rainbow Lawncare is the only company offering a bee friendly lawn solution in the Twin Cities! We are applying the extensive research done by the University of Minnesota Bee Lab to your backyard. You choose how much of your yard to dedicate towards the preservation of pollinators. In most cases, we are able to over-seed our custom fescue and flower seed mix into your existing lawn.
What can you expect?
You can expect to have a combination of grass and flowering perennials in your lawn. Depending on what weeds are present at the time of seeding you will still have some of those weeds and others can move in over time. Many plants that people perceive as weeds are actually beneficial for pollinators and help create a bee friendly lawn.
Upon arrival to your property, our trained technician will alert you before service if you are home. After completion, a door-hanger is left behind with information about the service completed. Also, you may request prior notification to your services.
What is included in the Bee Friendly Lawn Program?
The pollinator lawn package would include the following steps for the first year:
- First visit
- Mow your existing grass on lowest setting and double pass aerate
- Over-seed with fescue, flower seeds and organic fertilizer (9-0-9 Nature Safe)
- First consultation 3-5 weeks after seeding to check on establishment and make recommendations
- Based on recommendations from consultation: spot weed control and/or spot-seeding
- Second consultation to check on establishment and make additional recommendations
- Based on recommendations from consultation: spot weed control and/or spot-seeding
- Second over-seed with fescue, flower seeds and organic fertilizer (Fall)
Will you have weeds?
What do you consider a weed? Many common perennial plants in lawns are beneficial to pollinators so you will have them as part of our customized mix ideal for our growing conditions. White clover attracts over 50 different pollinators and is one example of a weed that is beneficial. Certain weeds are invasive, and can take over. We monitor your lawn and create a plan to spot treat if necessary twice a year.
How much does it cost?
The bee friendly lawn program will be a package deal that is all encompassing for the first season. The initial investment will be the biggest part and once established the maintenance will be considerably less.
